Għanja Tal-Poplu Festival - Domenique Azzopardi

Domenique Azzopardi is one of the Finalist of this year’s L-Ghanja tal-Poplu Festival which will be celebrating its 40th Anniversary. For Domenique this is her second experience in the L-Ghanja Tal-Poplu Festival, after she had already competed in 2014 with the song "Insellmulkom" written by Joe Chircop and composed by Philip Vella.

We have met with Dominique who is looking forward for her performance during the Semifinal on the 7th July which will be held at Pjazza Teatru Rjali , Valletta.  According to Domenique preparations are in full swing "Making sure that everything is perfect in terms of rehearsals, vocally and also working on interpretation”

Domenique has competed in many festivals both locally and abroad and have achieved wonderful results. We have asked her how it feels to compete in Festivals which promote the Maltese Language "Singing in Maltese I express my emotions, message, and feelings even more because I am singing with my mother tongue. I believe everyone should be proud of our language".

Dominique will be competing with the Song Pupa tal-Plastik , composed by Marco Debono to the lyrics of Paul Ellul. Pupa tal-Plastik is about a young woman who used to play with dolls when she was a child and pretended to be the mother of this doll. She grew up wanting to experience to be a mother herself but for some medical reasons, she could not have a baby of her own  The message behind this song is that there is a story behind every individual despite the joy which can be witnessed from the outside

Before concluding the Interview, Dominique wanted to pass on a message to our Readers “I would like to thank each and every one of you for your time to read this interview and also in supporting me throughout my musical journey.”
