Local Talent: An interview with Singer Dario Mifsud Bonnici

Dario Mifsud Bonnici is a local singer who was one of the 20 finalasits of this year`s MESC. For Dario this was his second apperance in the MESC. Dario competed with the song I Love You. We asked Dario a few questions.

Hi Dario, tell us something about yourself and what is your typical day routine?

First of all I’d like to thank you for this interview, a brief summery about myself.  I’m 28years old lives in Hamrun and Married to the most amazing wife ever, she is my rock behind my career. My daily routine is I wake up early morning and start off my day with a daily jog.  Keeping fit with a busy schedule is very hard but I try my best not to miss out. After a fresh shower and a healthy breakfast I head off to work.  I work for a pharmaceutical company which gives me a lot of satisfaction and the job is very dynamic.  Right after I head off to meet my lovely students at La Voix Academy and give them guidance in vocals and performance.  It is very satisfying watching young students grow in developing their talents and becoming stars.  Right after I start working till late to develop ideas,I answer to all my email and Skype calls with my management in Sweden .  At the end of a typical hectic day I make sure that I spend some time with my family before we doze off to sleep.

On weekends I try to minimize my work commitments to make sure I catch up on my sleep and spend some good quality time with my wife and my dog Jack.  I typically hang out with friends and relax and gear up for another hectic week.  Weekends are very important for me as if I keep working exhaustion will start taking its toll.

Which is your most favourite song and singer and why?

My favourite song is ‘Everywhere’ by Michele Branch

But all time favourite singer is Adam Levine from Maroon 5.  The bands' Californian styling and vocal talent are two factors that inspire me a lot when working on developing my own music

How was your experience in this year’s MESC?

After the experience of 2009 I kind of liked the idea of being a part of the contest again. Furthermore apart from Eurovision being a good stepping stone for a local artist representing my home country on that European platform has always been my dream. This year I performed as a solo artist and even though it is much more challenging I’m even more excited. Even though my entry 'i love you' gave me a good feeling I was not expecting it at all as I know the tough competition and the highly talented singers that compete in the Malta Eurovision; it all came as a very big surprise! Performing on the MESC stage was the cherry on the cake. Also making new friends and getting to know the crew and how everything works backstage was a plus. I still day dream about it.

What else can we expect from you in the future?

At the moment I’m working on some new tracks with my Production house in Sweden WHP (Woodhouse Prod) one of the songs could be my next submission for the MESC 2017. I will fly to Malmo to record these tracks in August so I’m constantly with my headphones listening to demos etc.
Also I’m working with writers locally on a Track for a local festival.

What do you think about when you’re preforming?

I’m usually so focused on stage so I don’t get much time to think! But Before I hit the stage I usually say a little prayer and think of all the hard work that had brought me to the upcoming performance. I usually look quite from the outside but I will be full of energy from the inside so I take a deep breath and explode on stage.

What advice would you give to our readers who would like to start singing but are afraid to do so

Singing gives you inner peace and it’s the best feeling ever to relate to lyrics and past experiences. Don’t be afraid to get a microphone and sing your heart out to an audience or friends who one day can look at you as his or hers favourite artist or Idol. Without music there is no world and without the world there is no music.
